The images you see here are excerpts from Leitmotif, a project that looks at cities and space - specifically, the emotional and psychological spaces that cities create and foster. A lot of these images here were born of thinking of growing up in Indian cities and contrasting this with my experiences in urban America. Most cities aren’t built for the vast number of people who negotiate them everyday: women, non-binary folks, the urban poor, and their stories and experiences are informed by vastly different experiences of the same geographical area. Through sketchbook drawing, printmaking and writing, I explore the whys and hows of our lived urban experiences, and look at how we navigate and negotiate the spaces within them.
