Chubby Bonnie
Daniela Go
Chubby Bonnie is a children’s picture book that talks about self-confidence and personal passions.
The main character Bonnie is an energetic little bunny who is passionate about performing. This is clearly noticed and supported by her parents, who ask her to perform with her cousins for her grandparent’s anniversary. But when she is teased by her cousins for being “chubby”, she begins to shy away from the stage and doubt herself.
With a little help from her grandma, Bonnie eventually realizes that her size never stood in the way of her having fun or doing what she loved to do.

ENDNOTES
I created different artifacts to decorate the supposed exhibition space. The reading area would have included tiny furniture and trinkets to give it a feeling of warmth that ties into the themes and emotions of the story. They are made mostly of ceramic pieces and felt to keep consistent with the colors and textures that I used for the illustrations of the book.I made it all with the story’s motifs in mind, but I also thought a lot about what I remember having in my childhood home.
This is not the end for Bonnie! I might revisit her character and write more about her and her family’s shenanigans in other books.
