My project is a 108-page book titled Winning the Lottery. As a child, I often felt like a cockroach; small and rejected. Cockroaches are often perceived as pests living among trash and ridden with disease, but they are also adaptable and willing to survive at all costs. I just wanted to survive (and still do). This book is a personal story exploring and capturing good and not-so-great- childhood memories through hand-lettering and cockroach imagery as a metaphor for survival.
The plan for my exhibition was a 120in x 80in wall that would be isolated and placed by the entrance of the gallery. It would have been lettered with acrylic markers and decorated with the ceramic pieces on both sides. The objects were taken from my book and were part of my memories.
